Olav Anton Thommessen is a prominent Norwegian composer and cultural personality. He has received commissions from all the major Norwegian orchestras and festivals as well as from institutions abroad. His broad knowledge and his ability to communicate has made him a popular teacher, lecturer and subject of numerous interviews.
Thommessen was born in Oslo on May 16th 1946. As one of three children to a diplomat, he grew up mainly abroad and this has to a large degree influenced his life. He received his education in Germany, England and the United States.
